Looking back on it, Alex realizes that they never really discussed it. Not in the ways that came with sitting down and talking all of it through. The idea got mentioned once over dinner and they discussed how good it could be, how much they both adore Luke, but not what it might mean and what could change. Then they had just started talking about how they would approach things, as if it didn't take a full conversation. They both knew what they wanted.

So when Alex came home one day and found Michael working on that second room where they'd just stored things really, he couldn't contain his excitement that this is real, it's something they're going to do and he's happy for it. For them. Even if it isn't what Luke wants, it means he has other options than the home, a place to be when he needs to get away. A place that's his, intended for him, and not merely a room assigned to him.

Alex had insisted on making dinner. It isn't like they don't go over to the home to see Luke fairly often, bringing pizza or something else with them. He deserved a home cooked meal, especially if they were going to have this talk.

Of course, by making a meal, he cut up veggies, and made salsa, and cooked up the meat and set up everything on the little counter in the kitchen for a taco bar. He'd thought about enchiladas like he remembers Michelle Valenti used to make them when they were kids, but that would maybe need to wait until he had any clue if Luke even liked Mexican food.

He spent time with Luke, thought the world of him, but now he worries what he's not doing right, what he might not like, and it results in three kinds of ice cream in the freezer, and more pop, juice, and Kool-Aid (Okay so in Darrow it was Coolaid, which sounds like a medication to Alex, but it's all the same thing he realizes after taking the chance and tasting it.)

Bopp has been fed and taken for a walk and she's curled up asleep for now, while Alex sets out the last items, waiting for Michael to return with Luke.
